Day 5
Las Terrenas/ Laguna Gri Gri
Going down the Northwest coast you will stop for a photo view at Playa Grande then drive to Laguna Gri Gri where you will experience an exotic mangrove-lined lagoon which aligns almost in the center of the Rio San Juan. By boat you will head through the lagoon witnessing an abundance of birdlife, protected by this country’s environmental law. The captain will drive your boat right into the Cueva de las Golindrinas (swallows cave) in which you will experience hundreds of these birds nested in the walls of the cave (seasonal). You will then boat to a beautiful natural cabo with crystal clear water where you will snorkel for as long as you would like. Upon being done snorkeling you will be taken to yet another beautiful beach where you can relax or mingle with the locals. You also can go on an optional excursion here. Deep sea fishing adventures can be purchased at the marina while others are relaxing on the beach or exploring the town.

Day 7
Las Terrenas/ Puerto Plata
In 1496, Columbus’ brother Bartholomew officially founded the city naming it San Felipe de Puerto Plata. Puerto Plata means silver port, due to the morning and evening clouds lingering across the coast silver in color. You will drive further into the North West coast stopping at photo views of breathtaking scenery while spending the day in the largest city of the North coast. Here you will be joined by a local tour guide with whom you will spend the day seeing many spectacular points of interest, taking a tour to the San Felipe Fortress, Amber Museum (Jurassic Park used the Amber Museums fossils of lizards and insects in their 1st movie), Parque Central (central park), San Felipe Cathedral, Museum of Taino Art, roll your own cigar and much more. You can also take an optional excursion here. The Teleferico (cable car) will take you up the Puerto Plata’s summit in the Caribbean’s only cable car system to the Isabel de Torres Mountain, named in honor of the Queen Isabel of Spain. From 2,550 feet above sea level you will be able to appreciate the magnificent view of the valley, the city of Puerto Plata and Atlantic Ocean.
